How will you contribute?

The Maintenance Services Supervisor is responsible for the planning and delivery of highly professional and specialized 24-hour maintenance and recycling services for all Senate occupied buildings (SCB, Chambers, Victoria, East Block, 1 Wellington). The position is accountable for supervising and overseeing a wide range of day-to-day maintenance services including addressing service delivery issues, implementing corrective measures, and recommending improvements to policies, processes, and equipment to enhance the quality and cost-efficiency of its operations. In addition to ensuring quality assurance, this position is responsible to develop and implement accountability mechanisms and performance reporting on its services delivered by unionized staff.

Open to the general public to staff one (1) full time indeterminate position In the Properties and Services Directorate.

This process may also be used to staff anticipatory similar positions on a determinate or indeterminate basis.

Prerequisites

  • Post-secondary education or an acceptable combination of education with relevant experience.
  • Minimum twelve (12) months in a supervisory role overseeing a workforce with accountabilities for performance management, hiring and labor relations.
  • Minimum of three (3) years working directly or indirectly with maintenance/janitorial services within a complex environment.
  • Basic knowledge of financial management practices to oversee and make recommendations regarding operational budget management.
  • Knowledge of maintenance/janitorial service products and equipment, and efficient and safe use of products.
  • Knowledge of human resources methods and techniques to assess applicants, performing interviews, assessing performance, and applying problem-solving techniques with subordinates.

Assets

  • Experience preparing reports and statistics on the team’s production, with analysis and recommendations to improve the quality and efficiency of services offered.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead difficult conversations with colleagues at all levels.
  • Knowledge of or experience working with parliamentary institutions.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of customers to ensure positive interactions.
  • Knowledge of Senate of Canada operations and organizational structure
  • Supervising a multidisciplinary unionized workforce
