How will you contribute?
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is accountable to the Chief Corporate Services Officer (CCSO) for the provision of finance, strategic planning, institutional risk management and procurement functions, as well as the Resources Management System. As CFO, there is responsibility for the stewardship, financial risk foresight, financial sign-off and oversight to assure transparency and probity in the financial management of the Senate.
The accountability of the CFO includes:
- Providing corporate and strategic leadership in the development and implementation of a framework of policies, processes, procedures, tools, measures and other enablers;
- The provision of leadership in the definition of requirement;
- The provision of a stewardship role by providing expert advice to the Clerk of the Senate, the CCSO, the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration (CIBA) and its Steering Committee, to the Budget Subcommittee, to Senators and the Senate Administration on finance and other related subjects under the stewardship of the CFO;
- Strategic planning;
- Institutional risk management; and
- Procurement in the Senate.

This selection process is open to the public to staff one (1) indeterminate full-time position in the Finance and Procurement Directorate under the direction of the Chief Corporate Services Officer.

Prerequisites
- University degree and a recognized accounting designation (Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified General Accountant (CGA) or Certified Professional Accountant (CPA)).
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience at the executive level in providing leadership and strategic advice to senior executives on complex financial, risk and resource management issues (including procurement, planning, costing, corporate budgeting, resourcing, financial statements, internal controls, financial policy, financial systems, corporate accounting and reporting).
- Broad experience in directing and managing the work of professional staff in diverse roles.
- Broad experience in relation to major process modernization and transformation.
- Experience in dealing with multiple priorities and projects and working under tight deadlines and with changing priorities within a fast-paced and unique organizational context.
- Experience in identifying emerging trends and in providing leadership to policy, client service and business practices improvements.
- Experience in managing human, financial, materiel and contracted resources.
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills, judgement and discretion, in order to provide mentoring and expert functional guidance, and to foster highly effective teamwork.
