How will you contribute?

As an integral part of the operations team in the Senate Administration’s Property and Services Directorate, the committee attendant provides the entire organization with the ongoing support required to hold in person and hybrid Senate committee, caucus and parliamentary association meetings, Senate sittings and other activities that require high-quality professional services.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Committee Room Support the committee attendant is responsible to provide a wide range of ongoing operational and professional services, such as administrative, logistical, technical, and other support services required for Senate Committees, Caucus and Parliamentary Associations meetings, Senate sittings and other events, in an efficient and discrete manner to ensure continuous service to Senators and their activities. The position, often serving as first point of contact for stakeholders including Senators, public, Senate administration, House of Commons staff, provides support to the Senate Chamber sittings and Senate Committees. Services include: gathering all relevant meeting/event information necessary to carry out duties, such as the number of participants and technical requirements; accurately setting up audio-visual equipment prior to the meeting/event according to given specifications and within established procedures and protocols; operating the console during the meeting/event; and completing established post-meeting activities. The incumbent interacts professionally with committee officials, senators, senior officials, House of Commons electronics services personnel, and CPAC officials. 

The incumbent is asked to help and support the mail services department when needed and is required to support our messenger service.

Prerequisites

Successful completion of secondary school education

  • Experience in using the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Experience in providing services to a varied clientele – in person, virtually and in a hybrid setting;
  • Experience in delivering technological services (e.g., use of videoconferencing equipment, projectors, cameras, sound systems, computer hardware and broadcasting systems);
  • Ability to work on multiple activities under tight deadlines;
  • Ability to operate and adjust a wide range of multimedia systems and equipment (e.g., videoconferencing equipment, projectors, cameras, sound systems, computer hardware and broadcasting systems);
  • Ability to install and operate a multimedia workstation;
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment;
  • Ability to operate a console would be considered an asset;
  • Experience in multimedia and broadcasting would be considered an asset;
  • Experience in the parliamentary environment would be considered an asset.
