How will you contribute?

Are you looking to make a difference by applying your expertise in fire prevention and investigations to help protect Canada’s parliamentary precinct and some of the country’s most iconic heritage buildings?  

As Advisor, Fire Prevention & Investigations, you will play a meaningful role in keeping people, heritage spaces, and operations safe. You will help design and advance a comprehensive fire prevention program by providing trusted advice and practical recommendations on fire safety regulations, emergency evacuation planning, and risk-mitigation strategies.

Working with a wide range of partners, you will influence decisions, support emergency preparedness, and help mobilize the right resources to strengthen safety across the Senate environment. Your work will have a visible and lasting impact, protecting employees, parliamentarians, and visitors, while supporting the continuity of parliamentary operations.

Open to

General public to staff one (1) full-time indeterminate position in the Corporate Security Directorate.        

This selection process may be used to staff determinate or indeterminate positions at the same level with similar requirements.

Prerequisites

Education & Credentials

  • Post-secondary education in fire safety, fire prevention, emergency management, or a related field, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience;
  • Professional membership or accreditation in a recognized fire safety, emergency planning, fire investigation, or firefighting organization.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Several years of experience in fire prevention, fire safety, investigations, or a related discipline within complex or regulated environments;
  • Strong knowledge of applicable legislation, codes, and standards, including the National and Ontario Building and Fire Codes, as well as National Fire Protection Association and Underwriters Laboratories of Canada standards7;
  • Experience conducting or supporting inspections, investigations, compliance reviews, and preparing reports with findings and recommendations;
  • Experience contributing to threat and risk assessments, emergency planning, and evacuation procedures;
  • Ability to coordinate projects with multiple files and work effectively with internal and external partners, including security, fire, law enforcement, and facilities stakeholders;
  • Sound judgment and discretion in sensitive or high-impact situations;
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information for diverse audiences.

The successful candidate will be required to work irregular and/or extended hours on occasion, sometimes on short notice.
